"Mutual Love" is the sixteenth episode of the Durarara!! anime and the seventeenth episode overall.
Synopsis[]
After Shizuo rips the door from Kyouhei's van and uses it to knock Niekawa out cold, Celty confiscates his knife and leaves him with the van gang, taking Anri home. She answers her doorbell shortly before midnight, finding Haruna Niekawa at her door. As the two girls sit and talk, Haruna tells Anri of her love for Takashi Nasujima and her hatred toward Anri for becoming the newest object of Takashi's affections. She explains that she had sent others, including her father, to attack Anri, and each attempt had failed. Her eyes begin to glow red as she reveals she has come to do the job herself.
Celty and Shinra inspect Niekawa's knife
In their apartment, Celty shows Shinra the knife that Niekawa had used to attack Anri. Shinra tells Celty about the demon blade Saika's desire to love humanity and its use of a human host to slash its victims and spread its feelings of love. He notices the "Made in Japan 2009" engraving on the knife, coming to the conclusion that Saika is still at large.
Checking the chat room, Celty and Shinra realize that Saika has been spreading. Over the city, slashing victims with glowing red eyes are slashing others and taking control of them. Celty takes the chat log to Shinjuku, where Shizuo is about to start a fight with Izaya while demanding to know his involvement with the slasher. He immediately drops his guard rail and rides off with her.
Haruna stands over Anri with a knife
In Anri's apartment, Haruna is prepared to kill her when the doorbell rings. Promising to kill whoever is at the door before killing Anri, she is surprised and excited to find Takashi there. She runs after him leaving a mob of people with knives and glowing red eyes to corner Anri in her apartment instead.
Shizuo and Celty arrive in South Ikebukuro Park. Countless numbers of people with glowing red eyes and carrying blades - ranging from kitchen knives to butterfly knives to scissors - encircle them. Anri's three bullies explain their collective desire for Shizuo's strength, promising that they love him. Shizuo is amused, glad for the chance to embrace his own strength and use it to its full extent, telling Saika's Army that he hates them as he runs toward them, prepared for a fight.
Anri reveals the real Saika
In another part of town, Haruna has Nasujima cornered and is preparing to cut him to show her love. Anri arrives and asks her to stop. Haruna is annoyed that Anri is still alive and explains how the power of her love helped her conquer Saika, but with Saika she can love the entire human race. Haruna attempts to slash her, but Anri stops Haruna's knife with her arm. As Anri explains that she has been too afraid to love anyone since her parents' murders five years prior, she pulls a full-length katana - the real Saika - from her arm.

Setton views the chat room and sees that Saika has been posting disjointed sentences and phrases, saying 'The timing was bad.' They repeat Shizuo Heiwajima's name again and offer to wait for him at South Ikebukuro park.
